About Valencia by train and ferry: the back story

Valencia is easy to reach and easy to leave. High-speed trains from Valencia Joaquín Sorolla reach Madrid in about an hour and forty minutes on the fastest AVE (renfe.com). Metrovalencia’s lines 3 and 5 run from the airport into the centre. And from the port, Baleària and Trasmed sail to Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca.

To Madrid

Renfe’s AVE and Avlo, Iryo and Ouigo run between Valencia Joaquín Sorolla and Madrid. Renfe gives about 1 hour 40 minutes for its fastest AVE; most trains take a little longer, so check the time of your train when you book.

From the airport

Valencia Airport’s metro station, Aeroport, is served by Metrovalencia lines 3 and 5 into the centre (Aena).

Book trains on renfe.com, iryo.eu or ouigo.com; ferries only on balearia.com and trasmed.com.

To the islands

Trasmed sails from Valencia to Palma, Mahón (Menorca), Ibiza and Formentera, and Baleària to Mallorca and Ibiza, with connections to Formentera; most crossings run overnight. Timetables change with the seasons, so check the operators’ own websites.

Our advice: for Madrid, choose a train that arrives at Atocha or Chamartín, whichever is nearer your hotel.
